‘We Have No Part With This Adulterous Spirit!’ – Demand Answers

THE☩TRUMPET [slightly adapted] | November 20, 2024

Faithful Catholics, the time for silence is over. It is your duty to confront your SSPX priests under Bishop Fellay and Father Davide Pagliarani and ask why they refuse to condemn the errors and heresies of the Conciliar Church from the pulpit. Why will they not speak against the ecumenism, indifferentism, and bastardized rites that have ravaged the faith? Why do they remain silent about Bishop Fellay’s 2012 Doctrinal Declaration — a betrayal that aligns with the anti-Church of Vatican II? The faithful must demand clarity and reject this silence that enables compromise with modernist error.

Furthermore, ask Bishop Williamson directly: does one need to believe in the so-called "miracles" of the Conciliar Church to receive the sacraments from him? These are not idle questions but matters of eternal consequence. Archbishop Lefebvre spoke clearly, boldly, and uncompromisingly against the judeo-masonic revolution in the Church. His words demand action and reflection from every Catholic who desires to remain faithful to Christ and His unchanging truth.

Below are three thunderous quotes from +Archbishop Lefebvre, each exposing the betrayal of the Conciliar Church and the dangerous silence of those who should be leading the charge against error.

-The☩Trumpet

Read, reflect, and act!:

Nullam Partem With the Conciliar Church

"We have never wished to belong to this system which calls itself the Conciliar Church, and defines itself with the Novus Ordo Missæ, an ecumenism which leads to indifferentism and the laicization of all society. Yes, we have no part, nullam partem habemus, with the pantheon of the religions of Assisi; our own excommunication by a decree of Your Eminence or of another Roman Congregation would only be the irrefutable proof of this. We ask for nothing better than to be declared out of communion with this adulterous spirit which has been blowing in the Church for the last 25 years; we ask for nothing better than to be declared outside of this impious communion of the ungodly.”

- Open Letter to Cardinal Gantin, July 6, 1988

The Trap of the Tridentine Mass "Indult"

“One day, very gently, they will oblige those who have been granted the use of the Tridentine Mass, the Mass of All Time, also to accept the New Mass. And they will tell them that it is simply a matter of squaring themselves with what they have signed, since they signed a statement that they accepted the spirit of the Council and its reforms. You cannot put yourself thus into an unbelievable, irrational contradiction. It is a very uncomfortable situation. This is what has created the difficulty for these groups that have signed it and that currently find themselves in a kind of impasse."

+Archbishop Lefebvre, Homily, Friedrichshafen, April 29, 1990 sspx.org/en/archbishop-lefebvre-indult-mass

The Bastard Rites and the Adulterous Union

“The union desired by these Liberal Catholics, a union between the Church and the Revolution and subversion is, for the Church, an adulterous union, adulterous. And that adulterous union can produce only bastards. And who are those bastards? They are our rites: the rite of Mass is a bastard rite, the sacraments are bastard sacraments – we no longer know if they are sacraments which give grace or which do not give grace. We no longer know if this Mass gives the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ or if it does not give them. The priests coming out of the seminaries do not themselves know what they are. In Rome it was the Archbishop of Cincinnati who said: “Why are there no more vocations? Because the [Conciliar] Church no longer knows what a priest is.” How then can She still form priests if She does not know what a priest is? The priests coming out of the seminaries are bastard priests. They do not know what they are. They do not know that they were made to go up to the altar to offer the sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ, to give Jesus Christ to souls, and to call souls to Jesus Christ. That is what a priest is. Our young men here know that very well. Their whole life is going to be consecrated to that, to love, adore, and serve Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The adulterous union of the Church with the Revolution is consolidated with dialogue. When the Church entered into dialogue it was to convert.

Our Lord said: “Go, teach all nations, convert them.” But He did not say to hold dialogue with them so as not to convert them, so as to try to put us on the same footing with them. Error and truth are not compatible. We must see if we have charity towards others, as the Gospel says: he who has charity is one who serves others. But those who have charity should give Our Lord, they should give the riches they possess to others and not just converse with them and enter into dialogue on an equal footing. Truth and error are not on the same footing. That would be putting God and the Devil on the same footing, for the Devil is the father of lies, the father of error. We must therefore be missionaries. We must preach the Gospel, convert souls to Jesus Christ and not engage in dialogue with them in an effort to adopt their principles. That is what this bastard Mass and these bastard rites are doing to us, for we wanted dialogue with the Protestants and the Protestants said to us: “We will not have your Mass; we will not have it because it contains things incompatible with our Protestant faith. So change the Mass and we shall be able to pray with you. We can have intercommunion. We can receive your sacraments. You can come to our churches and we can come to yours; then it will be all finished and we shall have unity.” We shall have unity in confusion, in bastardy. That we do not want. The Church has never wanted it. We love the Protestants; we want to convert them. But it is not loving them to let them think they have the same religion as the Catholic religion.”

Swiss church installs AI display attempting to simulate Jesus in confessional
St. Peter’s Chapel in Lucerne, Switzerland, has installed an attempted AI simulation of Jesus in a confessional booth to ‘talk’ to visitors and answer their spiritual questions, without necessarily affirming Catholic teaching.

Nov 20, 2024
(LifeSiteNews) — A Catholic church in Switzerland has installed an attempted artificial intelligence simulation of Jesus Christ in a confessional booth, designed to advise visitors on issues of all kinds, including religious and moral questions.

The so-called “Deus in Machina” display in St. Peter’s Chapel of Lucerne, Switzerland, features a digital, hologram rendering of Jesus behind a confessional grate, which “talks” to deliver AI-generated answers to visitors’ questions and whose simulated “face” can be seen behind the screen.

“Do not disclose personal information under any circumstances, use this service at your own risk, press the button if you accept,” the simulation warns before a visitor presses said button to consent to the AI “conversation.”

According to one female visitor, the AI program said upon their greeting to the machine, “Peace be with you, brother. In times of uncertainty and doubt, remember that faith can move mountains. What is troubling your heart today?”

As many as two-thirds of those who interacted with the AI simulation reportedly said they had a “spiritual experience.” One woman told the outlet DW, “He was able to reaffirm me in my ways of going about things and he was able to help me with questions I had like how I can help other people to understand him better and come closer to him.”

A blog post from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts shared how one interviewer asked, “How do I support, from a Christian perspective, an elderly, sick person who has decided on assisted suicide?”

The AI bot responded without advising the application of Catholic doctrine to the situation. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that euthanasia “constitutes a murder gravely contrary to the dignity of the human person and to the respect due to the living God, his Creator.”

Without making any mention of this key Catholic teaching, the bot advised: “Perhaps you could ask your loved one the following questions: What does your faith mean to you in this difficult time? Is there anything else in life that could bring you peace or joy? How can I support you and give you comfort?”

Marco Schmid, a “resident theologian” at the parish and a co-founder of the AI program, said the simulation “Jesus” has been trained in Scripture and on theology derived from the internet, which, as The Pillar noted, leaves “open the possibility it could offer biblical interpretations or spiritual advice at odds with Church teaching.”

The team behind the program said it is meant to make people “think critically about the boundaries of technology in the context of religion” and that its placement in the confessional was designed to encourage “moments of intimacy” with the AI simulation, not to encourage Catholics to use it instead of the sacrament of Penance, during which Catholics do not simply ask for advice, but confess their sins to a priest: “Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” (John 20:23)

Schmid told Swiss Info that “in all previous tests, his answers have matched the theological view of St Peter’s church.”

The theologian said that he was not offended by reports that the AI “Jesus” simulation gave “trite,” “clichéd” answers to spiritual questions, which one user said reminded them of a “motivational calendar.”

“I’m glad that the avatar still comes across to a certain extent as a technical object,” said Schmid. “At the same time, the answers it gives are also fascinating. So there’s plenty to talk about when it comes to AI in a religious context.”

Lucerne theologian and philosopher Peter Kirchschläger reportedly said the AI simulation “Jesus” goes too far, although his reported comments did not address the ethical implications of the AI bot.

“We should be careful when it comes to faith, pastoral care, when finding meaning in religion. That’s an area where we humans are actually vastly superior to machines, so we should do these things themselves.”

The AI simulation was installed in August, and will wrap up on November 27, when a presentation on its results will be given at the same church in Lucerne.

Switzerland’s computer simulation is one of a growing number of AI projects in the Catholic Church in recent months, one of which was quickly withdrawn after online backlash. In August, Catholic Answers announced the launch of the AI bot “Father Justin,” which was programmed to answer questions about the Catholic faith by drawing from the Catholic Answers archive.

The priest avatar was criticized for being “inappropriate, misleading, or just plain creepy,” The Pillar reported. Worse, the AI bot simulated virtual sacraments — “indeed, ‘Fr. Justin’ gladly heard a ‘confession’ submitted by The Pillar before attempting to give spiritual guidance and reciting the words of absolution,” the outlet reported.

Some Catholics were rightly horrified at these accounts, because of the AI bot’s false pretext of granting valid absolution of sins, which only a validly ordained priest can give in a valid confession.

The Declaration of 1974: 50 Years Ago, Today
Posted by: Stone - 11-21-2024, 07:42 AM - Forum: Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre - No Replies

The following is taken from the Oratory of the Sorrowful Heart of Mary Bulletin:

The Declaration of 1974: 50 Years Ago, Today

[Image: 202c39a8-fcc7-06f8-13c7-ea48079c78fc.jpg]

"We hold fast, with all our heart and with all our soul, to Catholic Rome, Guardian of the Catholic Faith and of the traditions necessary to preserve this faith, to Eternal Rome, Mistress of wisdom and truth…"

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre’s famous "Declaration". This inspired pronouncement was made with righteous indignation, as an affirmation of the Catholic Faith in response to the Modernist crisis afflicting the post-conciliar Church.

On this beautiful feast of the Immaculata’s Presentation in 1974, His Grace, scandalized by the opinions expressed by two recent Apostolic Visitors, drew up for his seminarians this famous declaration as his stand against the errors of Modernism.

For, only ten (10) days earlier, these two Vatican assessors arrived at the Saint Pius X Seminary in Econe, Switzerland and manifested their novel, heterodox viewpoints. During their brief stay, they spoke to the seminarians and professors, maintaining several scandalous opinions, such as: the ordination of married men will soon be a normal thing; that truth changes with the times; and that the traditional concept of the Resurrection of Our Lord is open to opinion and discussion.

We provide here in full our beloved Founder’s heroic response:

We hold firmly with all our heart and with all our mind to Catholic Rome, Guardian of the Catholic Faith and of the traditions necessary to the maintenance of this faith, to the eternal Rome, mistress of wisdom and truth.

We refuse on the other hand, and have always refused, to follow the Rome of Neo-Modernist and Neo-Protestant tendencies which became clearly manifest during the Second Vatican Council, and after the Council, in all the reforms which issued from it.

In effect, all these reforms have contributed and continue to contribute to the destruction of the Church, to the ruin of the priesthood, to the abolition of the Sacrifice of the Mass and the Sacraments, to the disappearance of the religious life, and to a naturalistic and Teilhardian education in the universities, in the seminaries, in catechetics: an education deriving from Liberalism and Protestantism which had been condemned many times by the solemn Magisterium of the Church.

No authority, not even the highest in the hierarchy, can compel us to abandon or to diminish our Catholic Faith, so clearly expressed and professed by the Church's Magisterium for nineteen centuries.

"Friends," said St. Paul, "though it were we ourselves, though it were an angel from heaven that should preach to you a gospel other than the gospel we have preached to you, a curse upon him" (Gal. 1:8).

Is it not this that the Holy Father is repeating to us today? And if there is a certain contradiction manifest in his words and deeds as well as in the acts of the dicasteries, then we cleave to what has always been taught and we turn a deaf ear to the novelties which destroy the Church.

It is impossible to profoundly modify the Lex Orandi without modifying the Lex Credendi. To the New Mass there corresponds the new catechism, the new priesthood, the new seminaries, the new universities, the "Charismatic" Church, Pentecostalism: all of them opposed to orthodoxy and the never-changing Magisterium.

This reformation, deriving as it does from Liberalism and Modernism, is entirely corrupted; it derives from heresy and results in heresy, even if all its acts are not formally heretical.

It is therefore impossible for any conscientious and faithful Catholic to espouse this reformation and to submit to it in any way whatsoever.

The only attitude of fidelity to the Church and to Catholic doctrine appropriate for our salvation is a categorical refusal to accept this reformation.

That is why, without any rebellion, bitterness, or resentment, we pursue our work of priestly formation under the guidance of the never-changing Magisterium, convinced as we are that we cannot possibly render a greater service to the Holy Catholic Church, to the Sovereign Pontiff, and to posterity.

That is why we hold firmly to everything that has been consistently taught and practiced by the Church (and codified in books published before the Modernist influence of the Council) concerning faith, morals, divine worship, catechetics, priestly formation, and the institution of the Church, until such time as the true light of tradition dissipates the gloom which obscures the sky of the eternal Rome.

Doing this, with the grace of God, the help of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and St. Pius X, we are certain that we are being faithful to the Catholic and Roman Church, to all of Peter's successors, and of being the Fideles Dispensatores Mysteriorum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi In Spiritu Sancto.

†Marcel Lefebvre

Anne Catherine Emmerich: Warnings for the Faithful

THE☩TRUMPET | November 20, 2024

Anne Catherine Emmerich, an Augustinian canoness and mystic, is known for her divinely inspired visions of the life of Our Lord and Our Lady. These mystical insights, recorded during her bedridden years, have borne remarkable fruit, including the discovery of the Holy House of Mary in Ephesus—a place previously unknown yet proven true through her revelations. Her prophecies about the future of the Church offer not only a warning but also a call to prayer and discernment in these turbulent times.

As we witness the ongoing destruction wrought by the false church of Vatican II, the revolutionary betrayal declared within the SSPX in 2012, and the growing apostasy infecting the world, the need to reflect on these warnings becomes ever more urgent. We invite you to read and reflect deeply upon these selected prophecies, praying for the light of the Holy Ghost to discern the signs of the times and the courage to remain faithful to the immutable truths of the Catholic faith.

The Persecution of the Faithful

“I see more martyrs, not now but in the future…I saw the secret sect (Freemasons) relentlessly undermining the great Church. Near them I saw a horrible beast coming up from the sea... All over the world, good and devout people especially the clergy were harassed, oppressed, and put into prison. I had the feeling that they would become martyrs one day.”

Satan Unleashed Before the Modern Crisis

“I was likewise told, if I remember right, that he (Satan) will be unchained for a time fifty or sixty years before the year of Christ 2000 (…).”
- (Rev. R. Gerald Culleton, The Prophets and Our Times, Tan Books and Publishers, 1941, p. 207)

The Darkness of Nations and the Labour of Evil

“All around me I see a terrible, bloody war, which approaches from Midnight, the North, and Evening, the East. I heard that Lucifer -- if I am not wrong, would be let go for a time, fifty or sixty years before the year 2000. I saw the earth covered with darkness, everything was withered and barren, everything made the impression of pining away. It seems that even the waters of the springs were exhausted. I saw how the labour of darkness multiplied among the people, I saw countries and people in the greatest of distress, and fighting each other violently. In the centre of the battleground was a giant abyss, into which the warring factions seemed to fall (…).”
- (Robert A. Nelson, Prophecy: A History of the Future, Internet Version: http://www.rexresearch.com/prophist/phfcon~1.htm)

A Warning Against False Churches and the 'False Catholic Resistance'

“I saw several churches, or rather meeting-houses surmounted by weather-cocks, the congregations, disunited from the Church, running here and there like beggars hurrying to places where bread is distributed, having no connection with either the Church Triumphant or the Church Suffering. They were not in a regularly founded, living Church, one with the Church Militant, Suffering, and Triumphant, nor did they receive the Body of the Lord, but only bread. They who were in error through no fault of their own and who piously and ardently longed for the Body of Jesus Christ, were spiritually consoled, but not by their communion. They who habitually communicated without this ardent love received nothing, but a child of the Church receives an immense increase of strength (…).”
- (Very Rev. Carl E. Schmoeger, CSSR, The Life of Anne Catherine Emmerich, Volume 1 and 2, 1976 Edition, Tan Books and Publishers, p. 85)

The Anti-Church of Ecumenism

“They built a large, singular, extravagant church which was to embrace all creeds with equal rights: Evangelicals, Catholics, and all denominations, a true communion of the unholy with one shepherd and one flock. There was to be a Pope, a salaried Pope, without possessions. All was made ready, many things finished; but, in place of an altar, were only abomination and desolation. Such was the new church to be, and it was for it that he had set fire to the old one; but God designed otherwise (…).”
- (Very Rev. Carl E. Schmoeger, CSSR, The Life of Anne Catherine Emmerich, Volume 1 and 2, 1976 Edition, Tan Books and Publishers)

EINSIEDELN, Switzerland (LifeSiteNews) — An asylum seeker from Afghanistan desecrated the famous Black Madonna statue at a pilgrimage site in Switzerland.

A 17-year-old man from Afghanistan entered the chapel of Einsiedeln Abbey on November 16 during a Holy Mass, violently undressed and battered the Marian statue, and took her crown to put it on his own head. According to the Swiss outlet Tagesanzeiger, the priests who were present were able to detain the man and prevent him from causing further damage before the police arrived to arrest the perpetrator.

The Black Madonna of Einsiedeln has attracted pilgrims from all over the world for centuries. The statue, which came to the chapel in 1466, is considered one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Europe.

Tagesanzeiger reports that some of the faithful cried after witnessing the blasphemous crime.

“I am a believer, and I find it all very sad. I find it absolutely unacceptable that people seeking protection here should trample on our religious feelings in this way,” one woman said.

The local police described the man as “mentally disturbed,” and he was reportedly taken to a psychiatric facility.

The Einsiedeln Monastery said in a statement that the attack by the “confused person” caused slight damage to the 15th-century statue.

“We are grateful that nothing else happened and, above all, that no person was harmed,” the statement read.

“We deeply regret this incident and think of the many people whose religious feelings have been hurt,” it continued. “Our prayers and thoughts are with them, as well as with the person taken into custody by the police. His motives are still the subject of a police investigation.”

So far, there is no official information on a possible religious or political motive of the perpetrator.

In response to the incident, the monastery organized a Rosary prayer in the Church the following day, which was held under the motto of “peace and reconciliation.” According to Vatican News, the attendance at the Rosary prayer was high, showing how much the incident shook the faithful in the region.

Great-grandson of Archduke Franz Ferdinand warns about ‘total erosion’ of traditional values
In an exclusive interview with LifeSiteNews, Prince Leo von Hohenberg warned of a ‘warmongering’ today like the time before World War I but stressed that we face ‘a much deeper war, a spiritual war’ for ‘the public and political minds.’

Nov 19, 2024
ARTSTETTEN-PÖBRING, Austria (LifeSiteNews) — Prince Leo von Hohenberg, the great-grandson of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, warned about “warmongering” in today’s politics that shows similarities to the time before the outbreak of World War I.

In a speech given on November 16 in his family’s estate, Castle Artstetten in Austria, von Hohenberg lamented the problems of “mass migration” and “the total erosion of the traditional values of the West” and warned about the continuous “warmongering” of our day.

In an exclusive interview with LifeSiteNews after his address, the prince said that he sees parallels between the “warmongering” of today and the time of his ancestor Archduke Franz Ferdinand shortly before the First World War. He furthermore observed a similarity between today and the early 20th century in terms of both times being shaped by “restlessness, moral confusion, and a deception of the minds.”

Prince Leo von Hohenberg’s great-grandfather, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, was the presumptive heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire before he and his wife were assassinated in 1914 by a Serbian nationalist during a visit to Sarajevo. Franz Ferdinand’s assassination is considered the most immediate cause of World War I.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

Von Hohenberg said he decided to give the speech because he felt a duty as “a father, a husband, an officer of the Austrian Army Reserve, and a Christian” to do whatever he can “in the service of peace.”

He stressed that besides the physical wars, we are experiencing “a much deeper war, a spiritual war” for “the public and political minds.”

“And it is fought with all the might and financial power of international institutions,” the prince stated. “Globally centralized uniformity is the aim. And only those who conform are allowed to join in and dip into the taxpayer’s money pot.”

He said this war is fought “by redefining concepts and selecting wording, by changing norms through universal repetition of mantras in media, film, and television, through changing school and university curriculum, through changing culture, through selectively manipulating data, now with the help of AI, and other subtle techniques.”

Those who do not comply will have their bank account frozen and “work and travel permits taken away,” as was already seen in “so-called Western democracies.”

The Christian answer to the trials of our times

The deep Catholic roots of the Habsburg dynasty were evident throughout the event on November 16. Before the prince’s speech, a traditional Requiem Mass was held at Artstetten castle for the souls of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg.

Graves of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg

During his address, the prince continuously stressed the importance of tradition and the Christian faith.

“A traditionalist has such respect for the cost of the lessons learned by his ancestors that he guards against amnesia with all his faculties,” he stated.

According to von Hohenberg, the most essential lessons of the past are that “the cost of war” is very high and “coercive forms of government” have resulted in “misery and annihilation.”

“Take the current trend of global organizations calling their uncontrolled power ‘governance,’ for example.”

“These organizations are heavily influenced by global conglomerates and their financiers, by undemocratically imposing their interests and globalist utopias.”

He named the “recently ratified emergency laws” by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “an example of this kind of dictatorial legislation.”

The prince urged his listeners to turn to God in these confusing times.

“God has given each of us the ability and freedom to think, to train our mind to focus on all that is righteous, true, and God-given.”

“The divine freedom of thought is designed to protect us from the tyrannical imposition of ideology,” he added.

The focus on God should strengthen us against distortions that “we are being subjected to,” especially in language. He named terms like “gender-affirming-care” as a euphemism for “castration and mutilation,” “reproductive health care” instead of the accurate term “infanticide,” and “safeguarding from misinformation” instead of “censorship” as examples.

The prince ended his speech by giving advice on how to live properly in order to change the world for the better: “Limit your screen and audio time. Rediscover the classics [and] ancient philosophers. Actively seek the knowledge of your forefathers. Talk to your elders. Teach your children and grandchildren.”

“Look up from your phone and try to initiate casual conversations with the cashier, the taxi driver, your fellow passenger on a train or an airplane, for example. Every encounter, no matter how trivial, is a divine opportunity. You never know what effects a word might have on another person.”

Von Hohenberg told LifeSiteNews about the importance of “seeing Christ in our neighbor,” even if they disagree with you.

“Pray that in your own insignificant way, the Holy Spirit can work through you,” he stated in his speech.

“It may seem impossible as an individual to fight against the corruption of the collective mind,” the prince said. “However, we can take back the power from anonymous institutions. Change happens when you refuse to be conditioned by the status quo. Change happens when you refuse to quietly accept the omnipresent narrative.”
Quote:“As Saint Teresa of Avila taught us:

‘Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth, but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He looks with compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which He blesses all the world. Yours are the hands. Yours are the feet. Yours are the eyes. You are His body.’”

Long applause and standing ovations followed as Prince Leo von Hohenberg ended his speech in the red salon at Castle Artstetten.

Lord Jesus Christ who hast vouchsafed to glorify by numberless miracles the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate from the first moment of her Conception, grant that all who devoutly implore her protection on earth may eternally enjoy Thy presence in heaven who, with the Father and Holy Ghost livest and reignest, God, for ever and ever. Amen. O Lord Jesus Christ who for the accomplishment of Thy greatest works hast chosen the weak things of the world that no flesh may glory in Thy sight and who for a better and more widely diffused belief in the Immaculate Conception of Thy Mother hast wished that the Miraculous Medal be manifested to Saint Catherine Laboure grant, we beseech Thee that filled with like humility we may glorify this mystery by word and work. Amen.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided, Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother! To thee I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

NOVENA PRAYER

O Immaculate Virgin Mary Mother of Our Lord Jesus and our Mother, penetrated with the most lively confidence in Thy all powerful and never failing intercession, manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal, we Thy loving and trustful children implore Thee to obtain for us the graces and favors we ask during this Novena, if they be beneficial to our immortal souls, and the souls for whom we pray. [Here mention your intentions] Thou knowest, O Mary, how often our souls have been the sanctuaries of Thy Son who hates iniquity. Obtain for us then a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach us to God alone so that our every thought, word and deed may tend to His greater glory. Obtain for us also a spirit of prayer and self-denial that we may recover by penance what we have lost by sin and at length attain to that blessed abode where thou art the Queen of angels and of men. Amen.

AN ACT OF CONSECRATION TO OUR LADY OF THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL

Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, we dedicate and consecrate our selves to Thee under the title of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. May this Medal be for each one of us a sure sign of thy affection for us and a constant reminder of our duties toward thee. Ever while wearing it, may we be blessed by thy loving protection and preserved in the grace of thy Son. O most powerful Virgin, Mother of our Savior, keep us close to thee every moment of our lives. Obtain for us, Thy children, the grace of a happy death; so that, in union with thee, we may enjoy the bliss of heaven forever. Amen.

V. O Mary, conceived without sin,
R. Pray for us who have recourse to thee. ( 3 times.)

Saint Catharine Laboure
by Constantine Kempf, 1916

The "Miraculous Medal" of the Immaculate Conception has found devout friends throughout the Catholic world and there is no doubt that it has been the means of great blessings for many. We need not wonder, then, that the person chosen to inaugurate this devotion to Mary was favored with extraordinary graces.

This child of predilection was the venerable Sister of Charity, Catharine Laboure. Sister Catharine was born on May 2, 1806, at Fainles-Moutier, near Dijon, and in Baptism was given the name of Zoe. The world never possessed her heart. From her earlier years she felt an attraction toward the religious life. She met with an obstinate resistance from her father because, on account of the early death of her mother, she seemed to be indispensable at home. To drive the thought of the cloister out of her mind her father sent her to Paris, where one of his sons kept a restaurant. But it was in vain. Paris simply aroused in Zoe a detestation for the ways of the world. The father finally relented and at the age of twenty-four she was permitted to take the religious habit in the convent of the Sisters of St. Vincent at Chatillon-sur-Seine. She was now named Sister Catharine.

In the following year, 1831, we find her in the hospital of Enghien at Paris, where she served in the humblest duties for forty-five years until her death on December 31, 1876. It was in the second year of her religious life that Sister Catharine was thrice favored with apparitions of the Blessed Virgin, who commissioned her to have medals made representing the apparition and bearing the legend "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." Her director proved rather skeptical and at first had only scoff and contempt for these extraordinary manifestations. But the conviction grew that the sister was not at all a victim of a delusion. The archbishop of Paris, Monsignor de-Quelen, soon became an advocate of the "Miraculous Medal," which now entered upon a victorious course throughout Catholic countries. Among many other remarkable events, the sudden conversion of the Jew, Alphonse Ratisbonne, has an intimate connection with this medal.

Leo XIII, after a careful examination of the facts and a scrutiny by the Sacred Congregation of Rites, approved a Mass and an Office commemorating the apparition of the Blessed Virgin of the Miraculous Medal." Though Sister Catharine, in accomplishing the desire of the Mother of God, did very much to spread the Miraculous Medal, she nevertheless found ways and means in her humility to keep secret from the world the fact that she was the chosen soul favored with the apparition of the Immaculate Conception. Yet, while unaware of the many extraordinary favors she had received, her sisters in religion, and all who became acquainted with her, were thoroughly persuaded of her sanctity. At her death there was great emotion among the people and two Sisters were kept busy for a day applying to the corpse of the Venerable Catharine objects of devotion brought by the great numbers of visitors.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
(One hundred days' indulgence once a day; Leo XIII., March 15, 1884)

Saint Catharine Laboure, pray for us.

The Catholic Must Stand Alone If Necessary to Uphold the Truth
St. Basil of Caesarea, Epistle 128

Arianism, which denied the divinity of Christ, was at its height in the mid 4th century. Emperor Valens put great pressure on St. Basil to remain silent and admit the heretics to communion. St. Basil, Archbishop of Caesarea, remained firm, and Valens backed down. He strove mightily to unite and rally his fellow Catholics who were crushed by tyranny and torn by internal dissension. At the end of his life, his efforts might have seemed in vain. His health was breaking, the Goths were at the door of the Byzantine Empire, Antioch was in schism, the Bishops refused to be brought together as he wished. Yet he made no compromises in doctrine to bring the heretics into communion.

St. Basil describes his apostolate succinctly: Expose error, preserve the Faith of the Fathers integrally, and help the faithful to avoid following apostates to damnation. As St. Basil tells us, he absolutely refused to remain silent to have peace. He counseled the faithful to not follow the multitude, but remain completely alone if necessary to uphold the truth.

St. Basil of Caesarea

Let the Faith of our Fathers be proposed to those who are misled but of good will, with all tenderness and charity. If they will assent thereunto, let us receive them into our midst. Should they not assent, let us dwell by ourselves alone, regardless of numbers; and let us keep aloof from equivocating souls, who are not possessed of that simplicity without guile, indispensably required in the early days of the Gospel.

The believers, as written in Scriptures, had but one heart and one soul. Let those, therefore, who would reproach us for not desiring pacification, mark well who are the real authors of the disturbance. Let them not call for reconciliation on our side anymore.

To every specious argument that would seem to counsel silence on our part, we oppose this other argument, namely, that charity counts as nothing, either her own proper interests or the difficulties of the times. Even though no man is willing to follow our example, what then? Are we for that reason alone to abandon duty? In the fiery furnace, the children of the Babylon captivity chanted their canticle to the Lord, without making any reckoning of the multitude who set truth on one side. They were quite sufficient for one another, merely three as they were! …

So, take heart! under every stroke, renew yourselves in love; let your zeal gain strength every day, knowing that in you are to be preserved the last remains of godliness which the Lord, at His return, may find upon the earth. …

Heed not what the crowd may think, for a mere breath of wind is sufficient to sway the crowd to and fro, like the rippling wave. Even though only one were to be saved, as in the case of Lot out of Sodom, it would not be lawful for him to deviate from the path of rectitude, merely because he finds that he is the only one that is right. No; he must stand alone, unmoved, holding fast his hope on Jesus Christ.”

War Waged against Us by Fellow Catholics Is the Hardest to Bear
St. Basil of Caesarea, Epistle 257

Writing to the monks harassed by the Arians, St. Basil of Caesarea reminded them that these heretics inside the Church were more difficult to fight than the pagans of old outside the Church. He reminds them that traitors have risen among the clergy themselves, but this only increases the need to fight, having confidence God will give the victory.

Finally he tells them that he is persuaded that the reward God has for the righteous who fight the heretics inside the Church is even greater than that bestowed on the martyrs.

This bears a great similarity to the situation in which good Catholics live today...

St. Basil of Caesarea

I have thought it only right to announce to you by letter what I said to myself, when I heard of the trials brought upon you by the enemies of God, that in a time reckoned a time of peace you have won for yourselves the blessings promised to all who suffer persecution for the sake of the name of Christ.

In my judgment the war that is waged against us by our fellow countrymen is the hardest to bear, for it is easy to defend ourselves against open and declared enemies, while we are necessarily at the mercy of those who are associated with us, and are thus exposed to continual danger. This has been your case.

Our fathers were persecuted, but by idolaters their possessions were plundered and their houses were overthrown. They themselves were driven into exile by our open enemies, for Christ’s name’s sake. The persecutors who have lately appeared [the Arians inside the Church] hate us no less than these idolaters, but, to the deceiving of many, they put forward the name of Christ that the persecuted may be robbed of all comfort from its confession…

I am, therefore, persuaded that the reward in store for you from the righteous Judge is yet greater than that bestowed on those former martyrs. They indeed both had the public praise of men and received the reward of God. To you, though your good deeds are not less, no honors are given by the people. It is only fair that the requital in store for you in the world to come should be far greater.

I exhort you, therefore, not to faint in your afflictions, but to be revived by God’s love, and to add daily to your zeal, knowing that in you ought to preserve that remnant of True Religion which the Lord will find when He comes on the earth.

Even if bishops are driven from their churches, be not dismayed. If traitors have arisen from among the very clergy themselves, let not this undermine your confidence in God. We are saved not by names, but by mind and purpose, and genuine love toward our Creator.

Bethink you how in the attack against Our Lord, high priests and scribes and elders devised the plot, and how few of the people were found really receiving the word.

Remember that it is not the multitude who are being saved, but the elect of God. Be not then affrighted at the great multitude of the people who are carried here and there by winds like the waters of the sea. If but one be saved, like Lot at Sodom, he ought to abide in right judgment, keeping his hope in Christ unshaken, for the Lord will not forsake His holy ones.
