Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò

(LifeSiteNews) — Twitter, the social media platform that has boasted free speech protections since coming under the control of Elon Musk, has suspended the account of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò.

On Saturday afternoon, word began to spread of the incident with followers demanding an explanation from owner Elon Musk and calling for reinstatement of the account.

The account is labeled “suspended” and all posts hidden, an action which Viganò described to LifeSiteNews’ John-Henry Westen as “shameful.”

Deacon Nick Donnelly first announced the “bad news” on Twitter, writing that the platform “has suspended the account of the courageous Archbishop Vigano [and] silenced one of the few voices amongst the Catholic bishops speaking out against the globalist agenda.”

"So let us be confident, let us not be unprepared, let us not be outflanked, let us be wise, vigilant, fighting against those who are trying to tear the faith out of our souls and morality out of our hearts, so that we may remain Catholics, remain united to the Blessed Virgin Mary, remain united to the Roman Catholic Church, remain faithful children of the Church."- Abp. (LifeSiteNews) — Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has returned to Twitter feeds.

During the early morning of July 16, just hours after it had been suspended, Twitter restored Viganò’s account. However, the social media platform, whose owner Elon Musk has pledged to protect free speech, has yet to explain why it suspended the account of the celebrated archbishop.

Viganò quoted Tucker Carlson as he announced his reinstatement, writing: “No one is punished for lying. People are only punished for telling the truth.”

“Putting a muzzle on dissenting voices is typical of those who have no arguments to refute them: this is how the deep state acts towards those who fight against the globalist coup and the deep church with those who denounce the apostasy of the Bergoglian Hierarchy,” he continued.

“I therefore thank @elonmusk, @twitter for reactivating my profile,” he wrote.

In his announcement, Viganò also referenced his new organization, Exsurge Domine, which supports priests and religious under attack for defending the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Although the motivation for banning Viganò from the platform is unclear at this time, it could be a result of his having establishing Exsurge Domine, an organization to help priests and religious who have fallen afoul of Pope Francis’ regime. The suspension came less than two weeks after the archbishop founded the international organization.

“One day – and it will be the day of the rescue – we will realize that those who consider us enemies to be silenced are a minority that acts fraudulently in the shadows and detests the light of truth,” Viganò promised.

“Because truth is an attribute of God, and darkness will never be able to overcome it,” he continued. “Let us therefore fight our battle against the enemy of mankind, in the certainty of the final victory and in the awareness of having at our side the One who has overcome the darkness: ‘Walk as children of the Light’ (Eph 5, 8).”
