One can't help but be reminded of the infamous 'Six Protestant Ministers' who were called in to assist with the 'creation' of the New Mass.
They too were instrumental in 'avoiding going backwards in Tradition.' It is sad to see so many traditional Catholics scandalized at Pope Francis but who are either ignorant or forget the incredible destruction that occurred under Paul VI and later continued by all the Conciliar popes, with Francis apparently hell-bent (no pun intended) to bring to their fullness, every error of Vatican II.
See here for a just a very few articles that outline this same maneuver under Paul VI:

"So let us be confident, let us not be unprepared, let us not be outflanked, let us be wise, vigilant, fighting against those who are trying to tear the faith out of our souls and morality out of our hearts, so that we may remain Catholics, remain united to the Blessed Virgin Mary, remain united to the Roman Catholic Church, remain faithful children of the Church."- Abp. Lefebvre
