A brief note: 

Fr. Hewko has long recommended to children (and adults) the reading of the lives of the Saints for the same reasons outlined in the commentary above, that is, to instill and learn virtue through the heroic stories of the Saints and the Martyrs. For example see these two lists of videos where Father draws out and focuses on the heroism, courage, and fortitude of these great men and women who gave everything for Christ: The  Holy Martyrs of England  and Catholic History.
