During a recent conference, the Rector of Maynooth College, Father Tomás Surlis, reported that there are only 20 seminarians in the 26 dioceses of Ireland, which has a population of 5M, 78% of whom are "Catholic".
During the conference one priest said: "We are so steeped in ideology that we have spent all these years saying that it is not numbers that matter but quality. The result? We have neither numbers nor quality" (SilereNonPossum.it, 26 April).
